Working with Real-Time high precision GPS/GNSS in ESRI's mobile software (ArcPad and ArcGIS for Mobile)

Are you running ESRI's ArcPad or ArcGIS Mobile with a GPS/GNSS receiver?  Are you getting the best in-field accuracy possible out of your system? Do you really need to post process?  Are you using the correct NAD83 datum transform? Uninformed Mobile GIS and GNSS deployments can waste thousands of dollars and lead to inaccurate feature locations.

This workshop will not only help you capture the most accurate and reliable GNSS positions for your GIS, it will help you use your GNSS equipment budget effectively to meet YOUR organization's needs. Many types of GPS/GNSS receivers will be covered (this is not a manufacturer-specific workshop).

Using Spatial Analyst for ArcGIS

This course introduces participants to the Spatial Analyst extension by working through several projects. The first project illustrates basic raster functionality by locating the best site for a solar installation. The second project demonstrates more advanced analysis by determining wildland fire hazard zones. A third project explores the process of analyzing water tables and the impact of irrigation, providing an opportunity to look at the Hydrology sample provided for ArcGIS. The final projects combine the skills learned in earlier projects to locate sites for elephant conservation zones in Kenya and to do least-cost path analysis to find the best corridor between an elephant herd and a reserve area. Students will also learn the basics of ModelBuilder and will use this for some of the projects. Juniper GIS courses are based on real projects, with an emphasis on the skills needed to successfully and efficiently complete your projects.

Topics include: Understanding Raster GIS; Interpolating surfaces; Using DEM elevation files; Using Map Algebra for spatial analysis; Using the Raster Calculator; Cost Distance Analysis; Analysis properties and commands; Distance, Viewshed and Proximity Grids; Using GRID commands; Hydrology in ArcGIS; Using ModelBuilder; Site Suitability Analysis; Least-cost path and corridor analysis.

Understanding and Using Python & ArcPy in ArcGIS

Launch your customizing powers with the basics plus a look into the power of Python and ArcPy! This course starts at the beginning with learning the basics of the Python programming language. It is an excellent choice for people not having any experience with programming languages. You will learn the advantages and disadvantages of the language, proper construction and syntax. Starting with beginning scripts you will progress to working with built-in data, control flow structures, variables and assignments, handling strings, messages and more! After learning the basics, ArcPy is introduced then incorporated with GIS and geoprocessing activities. You will end with exciting data driven pages!

Skills Learned: - What is Python?; Working with IDLE; Writing simple scripts: variables, list, looping, assignments; Debugging scripts; Working with lists; Describing objects; Opening, reading and writing files; Working with ArcToolbox: creating a custom tool; Map production using the mapping module and data driven pages; Creating statistics
