ArcGIS.com - What can Service Oriented Architecture do for you?

For several years Innovate!, Inc has been assisting the U.S. EPA in implementing the EPA GeoPlatform using ESRI's ArcGIS.com for Organizations. We've learned many lessons about the strengths and weaknesses of service oriented architecture for GIS users and developers. This presentation will cover the highlights from the guidance documents we've authored: best practices, standard operating procedures, and recommended workflows for publishing and documenting map services, web maps and map applications.

Biography: 

Torrin Hultgren has 13 years of experience in web mapping and service oriented architectures, and 7 years as a contractor for the U.S. EPA's national geospatial program. Currently a Director of Geospatial Solutions with Innovate!, Inc. out of Seattle, WA, Torrin believes geography gives meaning and purpose to the whole IT stack.

Biography: 

As a Solutions Consultant for Digital Map Products’ local government solutions, Benjamin Webb has his finger on the pulse of local government’s technology needs. With deep knowledge of GIS technologies and over seven years of experience implementing custom GIS solutions, Benjamin has successfully managed numerous land use planning projects. Benjamin has recently spoken at several conferences including CalGIS, WA URISA, and the International and City and County Managers’ Association. Matthew Nichols is an Account Executive for Digital Map Products’ local government solutions. Working closely with local government entities, Matthew helps them to productively leverage mapping technology to improve internal operations as well as citizen engagement. Matthew aids municipalities in finding innovative ways to integrate, analyze, and share location data across their organization, streamline efficiency and improve decision-making.
